Now I have blamed thing on the weather but for the past 2 days my fibre has been down more than up. It will just drop and fail to reconnect for upto 90mins. I have rang sky and they will not book an openreach engineer and said they will send there own. Now I dont have an issue with that but they wont visit till next Monday. They ran a line test and said its internal, I dont believe it is so is this sky cost cutting?

Sr102 router
Filtered mk3 bt socket
Shielded rj11 cable

No extensions

Connected at 39999
Attenuation is 26.1
Snr 3.6

Now the above has been fine for ages and this makes me think its external. The only thing that can be faulty is the router or the faceplate. Engineers were out at the duct on the main road 2 weeks ago so maybe thats it, 200m of ali between me and that junction point.

Just wondering what other people think, what was interesting sky support asked me to take a picture of my telephone socket and upload it via a web link, thats a new one.

Came in from work this morning and its totally off now so rang sky back and they say its an external fault and openreach have been booked. I dont have much faith as they said the engineer does not need to visit your house.

Sounds like a PCP/Jumpering issue.

The fact you mention ali cabling though sends shudders down my spine. Ali doesn't play well with FTTC or any broadband for that fact. If you do see Openreach, it may well be worth asking if they can bump the SNR up a touch. Ali is more susceptible to SNR fluctuation than copper so the added bump will help with any errors that the ali may throw on the line.

I rang them again and they done a line test, issue was external to the property and no engineer visit was needed. The job was passed to openreach and as of yesterday its now fixed, hopefully

I'm back to square 1, router loses sync and takes nearly an hr to sync back to the exchange. Sky ran a line test yesterday and said no fault was found, dropped out at 23.50 last night and didnt come back up till 01:20. It dropped again this morning at about 8am taking 20 mins to connect and again at 12:30. I was heading out but after a 15 min wait it was still not up.

This has to be a broken port in the cab or some other line issue. Snr was a healthy 6.4db on the downstream.

I got a call back from sky as promised and an engineer was booked, cant fault their CS. Lets see what openreach say tomorrow.

Router has been replaced with a Q hub, and its doing the same thing as the older SR102. Tried doing direct into the test socket with a filter yeilds the same results. Issues have to be external to the property as nothing has changed internally since the new mk3 filtered socket was installed in may last year.

Well openreach arrived at 8am and something is up as he can understand why the connection wont come up.

At present he is at the cab arguing with someone higher up to get a port change as he said it was broken. His tech support team say its fine so he is going to push higher.

Having no internet is ok for me but when a 9 year old is whinging and it's lashing with rain its irritating

Well no change so I guess he didnt get a port change. Connection has dropped again and just came back up after 50 mins of trying to sync. Will ring sky in the morning to see if they can push it further.

Port changed and still the same, the engineer is blaming the cab having vectoring. Speed have dropped to 30 down and 4up with an snr of 11db. If DLM is working it should go back up to 40down and 7up like I used to have.

Came in from work this morning and its now down to 25mbps down and 3mbps up. This is is getting silly!

DLM seems to be crippling the line.

Can you log into the Router and check your SNR margins again? I did advise further up it could be a PCP/Jumpering issue but if they've completed a lift and shift on the port then the issue is now most likely to be cabling to the premises. Assuming his PQT is passing? I'd look to push for a D-side swap (if possible).

You did advise its running on Ali and its known for very poor transmission. Did the BT Openreach Engineer confirm they've punched down the ali correctly on the port as I have had customers experience this issue on ali?

22down snr is 14.6db and 2.5up snr 18db
Line attenuation is 26.1db.

DLM is either seriously messed up or sonething else is going on as I used to get 40 down and 7up. Only 100meters of ali on a 600meter run from the cabinet. Sky seem to think an 18mbps drop in speed is ok! Its a combination of vectoring and g.inp thats killing me. Up to 1hr to reconnect when it drops. Openreach are coming back out tomorrow, lets see what happens.

Why would two systems designed to increase speed be messing up your connection? Not saying they aren't, just wondering how you came to that conclusion?

Do your immediate neighbours have fibre? Are their connections a mess?

I came to that conclusion as that is what the last engineer had said when he changed me from a failed port. My next door neighbours dont have fibre that I do know, other people on the street have had issues with normal adsl being off. The cabinet I am on has had new ports added recently and an odd frankenstien style cabinet is attached and cables bridged to it. The engineer said they have had lots of issues with this cabinet.
