Sky DLM Question

I had my Sky BB activated this morning, the router is synced at 4093kbps Up and 605kbps Down.

I put my Attenuation (45dB Down) and SNR (8.9dB) into one of them calculators which says I can get up to 7683kbps. What's the chances of DLM increasing my speed to anything near that? It's nearly double what I'm currently getting. I know that speed is possible round here as my Dad lives across the road and gets around 7mbps.

I'm just thinking that's quite a big leap if I was go get around 7000kbps, any chance it will happen?

Dlm always starts with a default setting For speed, which you reported above. You should see the line speed change over the next day or so. Best thing is to give it some time.

Okay cool, just that I read somewhere that you're only likely to see something within 1mb of the initial speed. I guess I'm just too impatient though. Thanks!

Go to link below paste your stats on their ADSL2 checker, it will give you your maximum speed, plus a other details.
Secondly get a filtered faceplate, usually better than a filtered dongle, in ,my case I got a whole 1mb speed increase, not garentee though.

My connection took nearly 10 days before it gave it's best.

I have a Sagecom modem, I don't think that website is compatible. I dont think I'll bother with a filtered faceplate, the speeds aren't hideously bad, I just want the best I can get :)

I'm pretty sure the initial speed on Sky is never more than 4Mbps. The speed should gradually increase over the next few days.

What you get depends on the characteristics of your particular line as well as the attenuation. But if someone over the road gets 7Mbps, that's a good sign that you'll get something similar.

i think in all the documentation they explain about the 4Mbps profile when you first connect, wish people would read the documentation that says - important information about your broadband and its in bold aswell.

Okay cool thanks, was just a bit worried it started off a bit low. But I'll wait it out and see :)

I've only had what came with the router and nothing of the kind was mentioned there.

Sky are now supplying SageCOM 2304N boxes instead of the netgear boxes now.

I had two neighbors who are having grief with the 2304N boxes, & have changed back to Netgear boxes, as they sync higher.

Should have had a letter explaining everything a few weeks before your enable date. But that's ok, Just make sure you don't turn your router off at all in the first 10 days as that can have some effect on the DLM.

Hmm, I hope I don't have any issues with mine!

There was one letter but it didn't say anything about DLM. I never switch my router off anyway.

I'm also with Sky and they start with 4mb then after 2 or 3 days your speeds change at about 0230 for about 3 or 4 days, I rang Sky up as I expected more speed and they changed it there and then. hth.

I have the Sagem F@ST 2304 router which seems to be a good one, I've not had a problem yet at least :D

DLM has kicked in, very pleased so far.

I think that's the max I'll get, but very happy :)

I'd say thats pretty close to the max as your SNR isn't going to be happy going any lower. It's a good speed for a line that looks a reasonable distance from the exchange (Maybe 1-2 miles)

Yeah I read Sky's target SNR is 7dB so I wont expect any more from it, but I'm very happy with that. The exchange is almost exactly 1 mile by road which the cables follow.

That's because Be have a lower target SNR ;)

You can call Sky and request they try to squeeze the line, but I'm not sure if they can set the SNR manually below 7. Plus they're limited to 20Mb anyway so it might be pointless for them.
