I was wondering if anyone has successfully managed to extract any data from sky+?

I'm looking to take off 3 months worth of a soap and put it on the PC so I can watch it anywhere in the house. It's getting a bit annoying being tied to the one room.

Cheers.

i remember reading about this a while back, it involves removing the drive from the box, and then plugging it into your computer, booting a program which then extracts your programs

i remember thinking it was good, but also a lot of hassle if you wanted to do it often

I was hoping there would be a way to avoid removing the drive :(

Wishful thinking I'd imagine. I can never seem to open those types of boxes, I always end up snapping plastic parts and it's all just a disaster. Laptops are the same. Virtually impossible to get into!

2 screws and a side panel to get to everything! Is where it's at :D

+1 for anuraj

You CANNOT remove the hard drive to copy films from Sky+ as they are encrypted and the content can only be played on a Sky+ box with your viewing card and not a PC.

I am not condoning piracy as it may be well against the forum rules but I just Googled this:...

"the HDMI output from the Sky box has HDCP protection on it I believe, which means HDMI capture cards won't record from it (they're designed for capturing from Camcorders etc. which don't have HDCP on their outputs)

If you have component outs on an early Sky HD box then the HD PVR will work. If you have a later box then you'll need something to cope with HDCP and to use the HDMI output."

and:

"If you have a Sky box with component out, the Hauppauge HD PVR will do it. If you have a newer box without component the HD Fury is probably your best bet."
