Asking for a friend first of all .....he has sky fibre and skys own modem/router the wireless isnt the best with other 10 or so wireless devices and the usual computers and ps4/xbox.

So with virgin media i have just put the superhub into modem mode and use a asus router...with the sky fibre im not sure that will work and maybe need a new type of router or should i just connect to router and change it to a access point.

Any info and advice would be great on this thanks.

Adding an access point is the most straight forward option.

The Sky router doesn't have a 'modem' mode.

They also use MER authentication which limits the routers that'll work with a Sky connection.

My suggestion would be to get a BT Openreach modem second hand, they can be picked up pretty cheap, then use the router of your choice that supports MER auth. I used an Asus RT-N66U until recently, now using a pfsense box. But the latest equivalent Asus router should work well.

I didn’t want two boxes so ditched the sky modem and replaced it with a netgear D7000, it’s doing the job fine. Not sure how I set it up now but I recall needing to extract the username and password from the sky modem

Thought about just telling him to pick up a Sky hub 3? Dual band Wi-Fi including ac? Will work out of the box and only £48.95 direct from Sky?
