Sky Fibre Optic

Up until a week ago, i regularly had a "DownStream Connection Speed" in the 40xxx range. However, i can now only sync at 20xxx, despite constant router restarts
It's the constant router restarts that's the problem, the DLM is quite aggressive on fibre and will be dropping your speed with you restarting the router, leave it alone and hopefully in a few weeks it will go back to normal.

A little help please. I was wondering if it would be possible to use an alternative router like the asus rt-ac68u wireless-ac1900 dual-band usb3.0 gigabit router instead of the sky hub sr101 one as its simply awful. my main concern is will i be able to use it with the modem that is installed as i have heard people being unable to use an alternative router for some reason or another.

yes you can use another router as long as it supports mer authentication via dhcp (type 63 if i remember correctly). to do it, you need to dump your username and password from the sr101, using the instructions from http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/extr...-how-get-username-password-sky-hub-sr101.html. Then its a case of adding them to the router of your choice. I'm not familiar with the Asus though on how to do this :(

I haven't bothered replacing the Openreach modem and just use the two devices :)

I placed an order on Tuesday and it's still processing- the lady I spoke to said the hub would be sent out in 5 working days - is this accurate?

She said there is no need for an engineer to come out as it's a new hub which doesn't require one.

Not worth a whole new thread but I had an open reach engineer round today for Sky fibre installation and he was superb couldn't do enough for me. Top marks to BT.

It's amazing what a few manners and a good cup of coffee can achieve. Brilliant service

Sky say that I should be able to order FTTC next month! I'm so excited! Is there anything I need to know when I order it? Request a specific router etc?

I think you'll get the newer black SR102 router, you cant specify one unfortunately, I'm, on Sky fibre 40/10 and debating buying and Asus N55U router as the Sky one can only do 150mbps

Over LAN? that's rather slow. Can't be much worse than what I have now though.

Hi,

I upgraded my router a while back to a custom firmware, all has been fine until i have recently developed a line problem causing line dropouts.

Before I call sky I would like to restore the default firmware. Could anyone point me in the direction of an image to do this? I should add that i am on Sky ADSL unlimted NOT fibre but thought id post in here as there maybe someone who can help.

I'm currently running firmware version 6.14.2a4N_UNI

Many Thanks,

Russ

I had Sky Fibre installed at my new property several weeks ago.

At the time the BT DSL Checker site said I would get Up to 35.4 down and Up to 6.1 up. Had it installed and actually got a little bit more.

I then saw on the BT thread that they had changed some speed estimations, so checked my line again and it now states that on a clean line I could get between 63.8-46.9 down and 18.6-12 up.
So based on that I upgraded to Fibre Pro. That kicked in on the 9th and currently nothing had changed on my connection (in fact the upstream dropped a little bit).

Is this normal? I rang Sky and they said it could take 10 days for the line to increase in speed. Anyone know if that's likely to actually happen?

Thanks
