SKY Fibre!

Strictly speaking you could still get contention on the DSLAM if it was fully subscribed and had a lot of heavy users, which would be BT's fault regardless of the GEA/LLU. Thats a pretty fringe scenario though, I would have thought.

If your exchange supports BT Infinity then it will support Sky Fibre once it is released as far as I'm aware.

That is my question though, I know I can get BT Infinity, I just want to know when I can get Sky fibre in my area.

If I cancel with Virgin then I may switch the whole lot to Sky.

From April onwards from what I've read.
But, register your interest with Sky, see first post for link, & Sky will contact you when available..

Hmm...

Sky User (Tick!)
FTTC Enabled Exchange (Tick!)

However, I am someone who is a considerable distance from the exchange, so can't see anyone rushing to upgrade my cabinet... registered my interest but I won't hold my breath.

Excellent! - Thanks for the heads up OP and the link - just registered.
I live less than 100metres away from my exchange and currently get the maximum of 20Mb using Sky. Love the fact we don't get capped like other providers! ;)

All "fibre" providers will be using BT Openreachs equipment and lines. If they didnt you would no way be seeing it for £20 would be more like 2000+, as they wouldnt have access as far as im concerned to BTO's ducting. This is also why they are offering (40/2 and 40/10 which is what Talktalk, BT etc are providing.)

That page makes it obvious its using Skys backhaul (and so requires a Sky LLU'd exchange) as its not in the section marked "Off Skys Network" (Connect = BT Wholesale)

Even though BT has made fibre available to 2 million BT customers, only a couple hundred thousand have actually got it. Everyone who wants super fast broadband seems to be heading to Virgin, so i dont think BT's network is going to get overloaded, the slow role out has actually given them the time they need to take customers away from other ADSL ISP's.
