What? Fox were trying to buy Sky, UK HMG don't want that, now Disney have just bought Fox. Anyone know what's going on?
Andi.

From what I've read Fox has basically bought Sky, so Disney now own Sky. Along with multi other things

Basically Disney are taking over the world.

They even own The Simpsons, and Aliens! Could we see a good Alien movie again?

Fox don't have a majority share holding yet, it's being held up by various government departments. Not sure how I feel about Disney owning Sky unless I get Star Wars bits for free

Walt Disney says it is to buy 21st Century Fox's entertainment assets for $52.4bn (£39bn).

The deal includes Fox's 39% stake in satellite broadcaster Sky, and the 20th Century Fox film studio, Disney announced.

Fox's remaining assets, including Fox News and Sports, will form a new company.

The deal ends more than half a century of media expansion by Fox owner Rupert Murdoch, who is 86 years old.

He turned a single Australian newspaper he inherited from his father at the age of 21 into one of the world's largest news and film empires.

Mr Murdoch's shift to selling assets rather than buying them has come as a surprise to those who expected him to hand over the businesses to his sons, James and Lachlan.

It is not clear how the deal will be received by US antitrust regulators.

The US Department of Justice recently sued to block AT&T's $85.4bn deal to buy Time Warner, on the basis that it will raise prices for consumers and competitors.

Fox's proposed deal to buy the remainder of Sky is being already investigated by the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), which is due to publish provisional findings in January.

The BBC understands that the Disney deal will not alter that investigation.

Disney chief executive Bob Iger will remain in his role until the end of 2021.

Fox is selling assets including its FX and National Geographic cable channels and media company Star India.

Disney also will buy Fox's stake in the Hulu video streaming service, giving it majority control of a competitor to Netflix.

Hulu is also partially owned by Comcast and Time Warner.

The deal will also add to Disney's huge back catalogue, with high-grossing films such as the original Star Wars movie, Avatar and Deadpool, as well as TV hits including The Simpsons.

Walt Disney was a nazi, Fox is full of nazis, and Sky is borderline. So, I think they're trying to turn everyone into nazis.
Go back to reading the guardian, perhaps they will do piece on hair-shirt darning of something you might find useful. Let the rest of us watch some well funded TV/films.

I can see that you don't understand sarcasm.

But the right wing ******** that comes out of Fox and Sky is astonishing. Anyone who can employ Bill O'Reilly (though I understand that he was removed) and Adam Boulton are certainly deserving of criticism.

Modern Disney has really tried to distance themselves from anything controversial, while as fox news makes a business out of it.

To be fair, fox could do with a touch of Disneys modern censoring policies which is essentially drop or stop funding anyone which express or advertise racism.

Maybe it could also be presented as a cartoon to reflect the ridiculous content.

Disney aren't buying Fox News, that will become it's own company.

Fox news has been a hindrance to shareholders for some time now due to it's close relationship with Trump, they've been actively sabotaging Fox to try getting the news section out from under the general Fox branding.

OK, a lot of jumping the gun here.

No one has bought anyone as yet. Fox's buyout of the remaining 61% of Sky they don't currently own is expected to have the preliminary report published by the CMA in January and the full report and decision around March time. This will likely be before any of the immensely complex negotiations, across borders, involving potentially dozens of regulatory bodies, governments and businesses about the Fox/Disney buyout which could even take a year or more.

For myself and my colleagues it's an exciting and potentially nervous time, but I don't really expect anything to change in the short to medium term for us. Not much changed other than a slight downswing in recruitment in certain parts of the business that I noticed. If anything the massive Premier League TV deal had a bigger effect than the news of the potential Fox merger. If this buyout, then the Disney buyout goes ahead the capital investment and expansion could be massive. France, Spain, Scandinavia and Eastern Europe have no Sky satellite service.

Fox news can afford to do it though. If they were cut loose, there are tons of wealthy private investors lining up to have the media outlet tout their crap. It happens already, i imagine some more freedom in broadcasting and less accountability is exactly what they want.

If Disney own the film branch of Fox, that would mean that the X-Men / Fantastic Four / Deadpool may be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although I'm not a fan of one company controlling such a large portion of the Hollywood film industry.

I hope we don’t lose the 20th century fox intro to movies. It’s one of the best. Iconic. Up there with the roaring lion, the stars round mountains and the Columbia lady.
