Just a heads up for those of you in a similar position to myself who have an android tablet unsupported by sky go. They have now made it compatible with many, many more tablets from a much wider variety of brands. My Asus transformer tf300 now works perfectly. Just search for 'Skygo tablet' on the play store and download that app instead.

Sky Go Tablet app

Our Sky Go Tablet app for Android is compatible with the majority of Android tablet devices (seven inches and larger) running Android 4.0 or later. Due to the sheer number of Android tablet devices available, we're not able to test the app on every single one, but we have carried out successful tests on a number of major devices.

The only Android tablet devices that are not supported by Sky Go are the Asus Transformer TF101 and Amazon Kindles.

Meanwhile, the Sky Sports TV App, which you would have thought would effectively be a subset of the SkyGo app is still saying

Android 4.4 (KitKat): We are working on an update to add compatibility with phones running KitKat. If you subscribe to Sky Sports Mobile TV and upgrade your device to KitKat you will not be able to use the app until the new version is available in Google Play.

though as they've put the price up to £10/month for all the sports channels (i.e. to get F1 included) then even if they ever get it to work on a device I have then I think I'll give it a miss. If it had worked for something I had then they'd have been having £5/month from me for the past year and foreseeable future.

Sky are an abomination for this type of development and although BT Sport has it's faults the BT Sport app is bloody superb.

I think it's because of all the extra stuff they put into it to stop people abusing their service that is making it impossible to make it for every device.

Like locking it down, no rooted devices, etc.

If they just focused on making the best streaming app i imagine it would be a lot better.

I heard James Murdoch being interviewed, the thought that someone somewhere might be getting TV for free would make him livid and a crap service for the proles is no price to pay for his security.
