Quick rant as I want to watch westworld whilst my wife is on the TV....will not work in Chrome, will not work in Edge, must be IE11....sigh...fine....I'm then forced to watch 2 minutes of ads which I can't skip or even pause (only tried as I hoped it would buffer the show whilst I went to the toilet).

This is 2016 right? I've not been bundled into a DeLorean and taken back to 2010?

Edit: And appears to be 720p? Fudge this!

I think you'll find most VOD systems now "force" you to watch the adds, you can't skip through.

It is annoying but I guess this is the way these businesses partly fund these "free/value add" online services.

I'd like to watch Sky Go on my TV via a PS3. However, as it's a console I'd have to upgrade to Sky Go Extra, which I'd rather not do.

I have a PS3, Chromecast, PC, Ipad.

Are my options:

1: Really long HDMI from PC to TV and watch via IE/Firefox
2: Use PC to watch Sky Go on IE/Firefox whilst also having Chrome open to stream to the Chromecast which is plugged in to the TV

Anything else, other than upgrading to Sky Go Extra? :p

Perhaps, my experience to date is Amazon prime and Netflix where I do not recall adverts. The quality is higher too, reading up more it would appear Sky Go is actually 480p.

I guess it is to entice you into spending that extra £5 a month to upgrade to extra.

it is silverlight on a windows laptop , and is adaptive to bandwidth available, seems just as good quality as iplayer max of 720p ~5Mb/s for me.
I was blocking the adds courtesy of noscript in ff, it just stuttered briefly at the add break and jumped to next segment (watching billions & lucky man)

Netflix on win, is itself, only 720p unless you have MS edge browser or else a roku type secure device and will then get 1080.

You can go for nowtv entertainment pkg instead <£2 p/m via ebay tokens, which has very similar material to sky go

edit definitely >=720p this a 700x700 screen grab just took from a show full screened at 1080 - name that show ?

How weird about netflix being 720p, shall have to try on edge to see the difference.

Sky Go however was terrible quality when watching westworld, maybe it was still buffering even though I have a 80meg line? To be honest, your screen show doesn't look 720p to me (and I can't name that show). Here's a grab I just took on chrome;

you are right your screen grab looks much better, maybe mine is only 480 and yours is 1080 (the bitmap pixels match the screen grab right ? so mine was 700/1920 of a screen width) I will grab some from westworld too with go and nowtv ... it is more fun than watching the shows - but the other couch potatoes do not like the constant viewing interruptions - 'The Strain'
process exlorer does not seem to easily give me an average Mb/s which aught to tell the whole story (was looking like <2Mb/s with go and a more healthy 5Mb/s with now tv)

When you said chrome - you mean which app ? (netflix on a chrome OS?)

Win 10 Chrome browser. From what I saw you are right that I should be getting 720 with Netflix in Chrome.

Trying to get a screenshot from edge but they have some witchcraft at play preventing it (shows a blackscreen). To my un-trained eye I'm not seeing a difference, but it looks good.

This is quite interesting chrome was running silverlight for netflix and nowtv use and you could override netflix bandwidth but now chrome only allows html5 and although netflix still works nowtv does not

Unfortunately bandwidth override technique does not seem to work for now tv in ff , but I should be getting 720p . (for Ondemand win7)
wonder whether 1080p netflix with edge is delivered with an hevc codec too ?
