I have an older Samsung HD box. Does anyone know if it will output audio simultaneously through an optical output and analogue RCA or is it only one output at a time?

Suspect it will do both. If you had a TV hooked up on SCART (which is also analogue audio) and optical out for DD/Stereo to a surround system then you can listen via either output or simultaneously. Stereo phonos would be no different.

Sky HD box ?

Why would you use a SCART.

Hook up the TV with the HDMI lead and hook up an amp via the optical out.

I have mine set up this way. I just turn the TV down and crank up the amp.
If it's a movie in 5.1 then all the amps pekers come into play..

Turn the amp right up and feel the sound !!!!

I'm not using scart. The Sky box is connected to the TV via hdmi. I've already got the optical output going to my AV amp but want an output going to a stereo amp which has speakers on the other side of the room. I want the option of using the stereo amp instead of the AV amp in certain situations.

The stereo amp doesn't have optical input, only RCA phonos. Running a phono cable from the Sky box will work.

Would using two different connections on two different types of amps give a little lag and cause a slight sync problem ?

Only one way to find out.

Be interesting to find out if you get this working.

Yes the sky box outputs all audio and video simultaneously.

Thanks MissChief :)

I don't think there will be any lag problems. I used to use the stereo amp before I got the AV amp and there were no sync issues with the video output. My AV amp doesn't carry audio via HDMI so I've got the Sky box connected to the tv using HDMI and a separate optical cable running to the amp and no sync issues there either.
