Hi guys, was wondering if anyone else had come across the same issue as me, when using my SKY+HD box is connected to my TV using HDMI the audio level is poor, meaning to get any kind of listenable sound the tv needs to be turned up to 75/100, where as anything else plugged in via HDMI (xbox one, xbox 360) the volume is fine and the tv needs to be set to around 15/100

I've tried doing some googling but come up with no solid way of sorting this out. Anyone else found a solution or am i doomed to wear out the volume up and down buttons on my remote every time i change inputs.

Yeah Dolby tracks have a low nominal volume to make for better dynamic range for loud bangs and stuff. But I've only heard of people having this volume difference on blu-ray players, but it may be what's affecting your SkyHD box as a lot of content is encoded with Dolby these days, especially Sky's own channels.

Is it the same on all channels? If the issue isn't there on something like Eurosport HD but is apparrent on Sky Movies then it probably is because of the Dolby soundtrack.

Some TVs and audio equipment have something called DRC or Dynamic Range Control which will compress the audio levels a little, so it might be worth looking for that in your TV/HiFi menu or something.

I've tried flicking back and forth from Dolby D on the sky box, but with no change, after more searching it looks like something sky have done as it seems to be effecting loads of people going back as fast as 2007/2008.

I've scoured the LG menus on the TV as well and found nothing

I have even tried using the passthrough on the Xbox One to see if it boosted the audio, but no luck there either.

Looks like im doomed to having to have the tv speakers on ful to be able to hear anything on sky at all

Odd you mention this issue. I recently changed my Sky box. Similar low optical out level. Swapped back to my older box and levels back up nicely. Swapped out the new box for another and again low levels. I gave up and use my older box. Annoying some components in theses devices have such massive differences in audio out especially from the optical out.
