Sky+ HD Boxes

mine runs hot, but i've never measured the temperature or anything like that.

who cares tbh, you can buy them second hand off gumtree for £20 if they die. yes you lose your recordings, but that's no big deal to me tbh, you can re-record or re-download them again most of the time.

the only thing i would miss is the 2013 confederations cup final.

The only reason it concerns me is putting my PS4 on top of it when it's running so hot.

I wouldn't do this. If you were only using one item at a time then perhaps it'd be okay, but the Sky boxes are always powered and can get quite warm just when recording stuff in standby, which means you're subjecting both to additional heat that they're not designed for.

Ive had m PS4 on top of my Sky box since the PS4 came out and its been fine.

I need to check how warm my Sky box gets though as ive never noticed it getting hot ...never checked though.

I've packed the PS4 away at the moment (nowhere else to put it) as I just don't want it on top of the box.

buy a bigger AV unit or buy a 9-12 inch fan and have it blowing over them (will be noisy though) or buy a couple of USB powered laptop coolers and place one under the sky box and one under the ps4 to help with cooling them down and airflow that could be okay i suppose if they are decent laptop coolers. i think the sky box has a usb slot to power its fan and the ps4 can have usb power on in standby so it will always run if you leave it in standby.

you should have been more specific in the OP, putting a brand new £350 console directly on top of something which is like a small heater is never a good idea.

if you were worried about the sky box dying it's a different matter they can be replaced like i said for £20.

Which is exactly why I haven't done that!

It's all very well saying buy a new AV unit, but when you have a girlfriend who is very picky about this sort of thing it's never a simple matter, I also have to take into account size of the shelves in the new unit to allow space for all the equipment that will go in it, it also has to be a corner TV unit due to the nature of our living room.

Anywhere to stand it vertically? Ideally you'd need the vertical stand for it though, think you mentioned it in the PS4 thread right?

I wouldn't worry about it....The heat output from the skyhd box is not going cause any problems for your PS4....

I got two 2000watt electric rads mounted on both sides of my skyHD box/Av amp/PS3/ PS4 and the rads are mounted right below my 50" plasma and I never suffered any problems or worried about it..

I've had 5 and they have all got hot. The newer, smaller ones seem to run cooler though. It's when they get too hot that the power supply problems start.
