Just redecorated the house and the missus now want's to change the layout of the living room.

She want's the TV and Sky HD box moved from one side of the room to the other. Problem being the cables come from the dish through the outside wall right to where the TV is at the moment. Really don't want to try running extension cable through trunking and around door frames and we have wooden flooring as well. So I was wondering if I could call Sky and have an engineer come out to drill a new hole where the TV is going to go in the other wall and then extend the cable around the side of the house and through the new hole?.

Do they do this at all, does anyone know?. I'm happy to pay whatever charge is involved. If they don't do this usually, any idea what cost would be involved to get a satellite engineer out to do it?. I know I could probably do it myself but to be honest I can't be bothered, would rather pay someone to do the work.

Going to call them tomorrow but wondered if anyone here had asked them to do this. The system was installed a few months ago ( before the missus got her ideas about decorating!! :p ) and the Sky guy just ran the extra cable required for HD through next to where the old one already was, which was fine at the time.

Ta for any advice.:)

As I said, could do it myself but CBA. :p

Would probably mean buying/borrowing/hiring a long drill bit to get through the wall. Reckon it would be less hassle on my part to just pay someone. Plus I'm not finished decorating yet, that's the rest of my week taken care of unfortunately. :(

Any competent aerial installer or electrician could do this for you if, as you say, you CBA.

An aerial installer makes the most sense as they have the right quality of cables and connectors, plus they'll be able to put the dish alignment back correct in the unlikely even that it is moved during the install.

Do it on your rota days

How did you guess I was a firey?. :p :D

Phoned Sky today about this and was told "Can you not just do it yourself?". :p

So that's exactly what I will do. Can't see it being difficult. Biggest hassle will be trying to drill through the wall in a safe place without going through any electrics or pipes!!. Sky c/s person said it would be £65 call out fee plus a charge for extra cable and fittings. So I reckon 10 m of coax from B & Q and a few fittings will do the trick. Anyone know exactly what fittings and cable I require?. Is it some sort of fancy HD quality satellite cable or will coax do?.

Drill through the mortar rather than the brick. If you drill through the brick you'll likely snap it halfway through and the face will come off it. Try and beg/steal/borrow a hammer drill and obviously make sure you get a masonry drill bit.

Well, I gave in and was a lazy git. I phoned a local satellite installation guy today who nipped round and sorted it all out in 30 mins for the sum of £45. :D

I knew what job you do because I do the same job :)
Just done a couple of days of Compartment Fire Behaviour Training, do you do this course? It was fantastic, short pulse, long pulse, painting :)

Anyway for £45 I think you've made the right choice tbh, sometimes it's easier just to get the pros in.

Yep, think just paying the £45 was the best plan. Saved me doing it and having to run around getting the cable and fittings etc.

Yeah, we do a CFBT course a minimum of once per year. Got another one coming up in the next month or so. Can be hard work but it's fun, yep!!. :D
