woz talking to a guy I went to college with who is now a sky installer working direct 4 sky (in a simpsons van). He says they havent been told when the release date will be but he is hoping 4 lots of jobs just fitting the boxes and not climbing about putting dishes up.

Indeed, all US HD services are delivered via premium satellite or cable services such as Dish network, DirecTV, Comcast etc.

They are all pay subscription models. The US has a lot of HD pay for view sports aswell.

Incidentally, George Bush signed the Digital switch off Mandate yesterday, 2009 is the analog switch off deadline. Theres not really any digital terrestrial service in the US (some pilot schemes), so I expect that airspace is going to be a great opportunity for the TV providers to rollout digital terrestrial HD.

This bodes well for the UK getting HD freeview at some point in the future.
Ive got THIS will i be able to get terrestrial HD in the future?

as for the lack of content argument I was in the USA 2 years ago and went to a home cineama exibition and HDTV was being broadcast then. After seeing the demonstration over there I knew Id have to get HDTV as soon as it came out over here. Thats why I got my 43" pioneer plasma last year.

Next monday 13th March The Gadget Show on channel five at 7:15pm is doing a special program about Sky HD. Might be worth a look ;)

what sort of installation will be involved?

as my parents will want sky Hd but only if they can avoid letting sky install it as they're absolute cowboys from past experience, and my parents would rather get someone independent in to do it.

We already have a minidish and all the cabling in place for the normal sky digital.
If you have allready got a sky digital installation all they have to do is connect a new hd set top box top the existing dish feed and connect it to your HD ready TV :D

Its the same on AVforums the whinging about the price, if you dont like it dont buy it, if like me you dont care but just want the HD to feed your HDTV then buy it.

24th of May here I come

I spent £3000 on my pioneer plasma so I think not buying sky hd would be like buying a Ferrari and not having a road to drive it on. ;)

How can they take pre orders and give instalation dates and take the full £299 if there isnt enough box's? Anyone actually know someone that has been put back and given twenty quid or is this just an urban mith
