Hi I just got adsl2 installed in the house we just moved to. When I signed up it said I should get around 4mb.

It was activated yesterday and my speed last night was 1.3mb and was pretty nippy

But it dropped to half that now.

I know they said he should drop and raise in the first 10 days but am worried it will not improve

the stats are
Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 608 kbps 512 kbps
Line Attenuation 61 db 31 db
Noise Margin 8 db 13 db

Anyone know what kind of speeds I should be looking at here?

you line attenuation is very high and therefore will limit your speeds.

However just leave things alone for the first 7-10 days as Sky DLM (dynamic line management) works it's "magic" and it should steadily increase to the maximum the line can handle.

With your SNR margin being what it is, it's not going to improve much more than what you've got (which should be good to ~70kB/s).

been playing around with the test socket remove the phone etc added and my latest stats is

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2624 kbps 512 kbps
Line Attenuation 62 db 31 db
Noise Margin 7 db 14 db

Starting to think there a problem in my wiring

The question is whether it'll stay like that.

I would be very happy with that tbh even 2 meg If I could use the phone at the same time.

But every time I plugged the phone in the speed has dropped to about half a mb

Little update

I drove to my mums house and got her filter that came with BT. She has one of those filter front plates so dint need it.

to my surprise with both phone and router plugged in
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2688 kbps 512 kbps
Line Attenuation 62 db 31 db
Noise Margin 7 db 14 db

now I had 3 filters with my sky router and each one of them cut my dl to around 400-600k.

It's possible you have a broken filter but you'll reconnect at a different speed each time. It's whether it stays at that speed over time or disconnects and winds up back at 600kbps.

Stop keeping disconnecting your router!!! - this will not help in the first 7-10days of service from sky as the DLM thinks there is a problem with the line etc and will not improve.

Have a read here for the do's and dont's

I know mate but I clearly had a problem with the 3 filters I got from sky

Every time the phone was plugged in the speed dropped by massive amounts

Left it running from yesterday afternoon with zero problems my NR has even doubled to 14

Is it a digital cordless (DECT) telephone? Stories around that they can wreak havoc with a DSL connection. Double (or more ) filtering the 'phone can help - the only way you can be sure of the best speed is with it unplugged.
