my sky modem keeps causing my pc and my girlfriends laptop to lose the wireless connection, sometimes rebooting the pc or laptop solves this but today i am having to use the reset button on the modem to connect again, its happening more often today and my usb wireless dongle is at the front of my desk to get a more direct signal but i dont think thats the problem.

is there any common issues with these sky modems ?:(

My sky router hardly ever drops out. Have you tried changing wireless channels. You maybe getting interference from something.

hi thanks for the reply, i dont know much about the modem settings, it was set at channel 11 and i have never tried another setting, so i have changed to chanel 1, does selecting auto work very well.

ill see how it goes now i have changed the chanel, it has been fine up till now.

take it you mean the combined modem/router that sky give you, if so the first thing i did was replace it with a different one,

the one I used was from linksys and its never dropped, the standard one I found was pap however using a different routr breaks sky's t&c well it used to anyway

unfortunately i think the current generation of sky routers cant have the data ripped off of them yet allowing you to use a different router, you are entitled if you so wish to contact sky to arrange a replacement unit, it may be that its faulty

also make sure you run through general wireless issues, such as range, items of interference etc before you dismiss the wireless as rubbish (ok yes on the sagem sky unit it isnt brilliant but in range the connection was stable)

well so far in 'auto' it has not dropped out, i have a d-link modem/router which i used before but thats no good if it cannot be set up for sky.

i have not read into what could cause the interference, xmas tree lights perhaps :D
