Hi I've got the old netgear DG934G router (black) and have moved from a flat to a semi. The BT line is downstairs in the lounge. The study is opposite side of the house upstairs 1st floor.

The PC and PS4 struggle to get a signal sometimes- Max 600kb down. I don't want to spend a lot of money and was wondering if the SR101 Hub is worth upgrading to for wifi signal - any experience?

I was thinking getting it second hand off gumtree. Alternatively, is there a cheap router I could purchase that might sort my issue? Though tinkering around to get the sky broadband to work is off-putting.

Thanks:rolleyes:

Have you tried changing the wireless channel at all? If you have android download wifi analyzer and see what's happening with the channels.

Your router is wireless 'G' whereas the Sky Hubs are wireless 'N' so theoretically you should get a better signal, further with one.

yeah tried all that
also positioning router
thanks

The SR101 and SR102 aren't the best for wireless signal or speed. I personally use a Time Capsule as the wireless access point and have the wireless switched off on the SR102, which means you don't need to mess about with getting details (which I have anyway :p) or trying to make a 3rd party router work.

Going that route would give you better results for less hassle.

Except a time capsule is £250!!

You're never going to want to be using Wireless for gaming, although if I had to Id want to be using AC on an AP. Although to be fair Id just run a cable, couple of cat5e will do.

Yeah I know WiFi isn't ideal.
Would love to run cables but it's literally other side and would be very difficult to hide them going through lounge upstairs across hall into corner of room

Bought the sr101 hub £10 second hand. Not amazing improvement but just enough to stop the disconnects. It will do for now.

Thanks for the tips!
