Hi all,

Is the default netgear router ok?

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/3b/Netgear-DG834G-Router.jpg

I'm having problems with both PS3 & my work laptop dropping connection.

Router location:
My office hardwired to PC (ethernet cable)
Small hallway, 2 doors to living room where PS3 & laptop are used

PS3 - Playing KZ it will drop mid game saying connection error

Laptop - Even now typing everynow & again it just loses connection. Its showing sig strength as good to excellent.
My 'ThinkVantage Access Connections' software actually shows another 4 neighbours with equal or stronger signal... I live in a detached house with a drive at least to my nearest neighbour.

If I take the laptop upstairs I've got about 7 or 8 other signals, half of them are in the 60% & mine's in the 40% strength mark.

So my re my question, is the netgear any good or is it something else.

Oh yeah, I'm on sky 2nd from bottom package BBand

If you think I need to upgrade, can I? As in will Sky let me & what's a recommended router with some more 'umph'

Many thanks

my sky netgear dg834gt router is rock solid but that's not to say you don't have a dud one

try changing the channel your wireless is on as it may be getting interference from your neighbours wireless

If its the default black Netgear router, ours is rubbish. My laptop can get signal in my bedroom but my phone struggles and my desktop just can't see it.

Never had any problems with mine, none that I know of anyway. Have heard several times that they are supposed to be decent routers.

check the antenna is actually tightened properly and then change wireless channel.

they're good routers normally.

Ok guys...

How do I change the wireless channel, step by step would help please :)

Cheers in advance Heffer23

PS Antenna is good & solid

my sky netgear router drops its internet connection maybe 4 or 5 times a day, i have to reset the router to get internet access again. the network stays connected just no internet access. to fix it i have to unplug router. very annoying when playing wow :(

pc is connected by wire.

Hi all,
Ok, sorry its been a bit long replying but wife just given birth to our new baby daughter... tres tired Zzzzzzz

Anyway guys, have changed the channel on my netgear several times with varying levels of results all poor... currently on channel 7 with 37%.

I'm in panic mode now as it was my 40th last week & the wife bought me a iTouch & iPad (greedy yes) & unless I sit in my office (next to my pc) or in a specific seat next door in the kitchen I don't get any 'workable' signal around the house.
Which is kinda pants.

Is the location of my router (near my PC) causing the issues?

Can I buy a booster? Can someone link me one pls.

I've read people talking of 'airport' or something like it ref improved signals ???

So can you help. Do I need a new, better router ???

Many thanks

Can't speak for the Netgear version, Sagem router is rock solid its been up nearly 700hrs after l got a connection problem fixed. We have 3 PC's + 1 PS3 connected no problem's at all.

My connection speed is 7:2D/strm > 864KB:UP/strm due to distance from the exchange. l check my ping now and again, alway's ping bbc.co.uk Ave Ping = 24, very happy at that. :)

I have decent coverage with my White 834 router on all 3 floors of my house, although the reception at the top and back is a little patchy.

Using the black 934 router the top floor is pretty dead and it drops on the first floor back room.

I am planning to add a high gain antenna to the black router by removing one of the connections to the internal antenna and attaching my own. some guy on skyuser has done it and it worked a treat apparently.

The White 834 router of course has an external antenna which can be swapped for a higher gain antenna, it's stock is just 2dbi. I'm waiting on the antenna from the auction site, hopefully it'll work well.

Why do I have 2 sky routers? My White netgear router is slightly faulty and has difficulty with stuff like iplayer and also crashes quite a bit.

Hi all, latest update
Complained to sky they sent me a new Sagem (little dark grey fella, looks like a Sky box).
Signal is better but I'm still struggling upstairs.
I can't attach a high gain coz the aerial is internal (unless I've missed something).

I need wifi so a homeplug is no good to me (would vastly improve my PS3 connection...but that's not what I want)

just had a thought, would a power line be effective?
Could i plug in at the router then plug a power line upstairs which would increase the wifi signal for my iPad? I hear lag maybe an issue.

So that brings me to repeaters.

Can anyone recommend a good (great) repeater that works with the Sagem
i.e. has anyone else done it & got great results

There's this one here for instance.... any good ???

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Many thanks in advance
