Sky Netgear router - is it possible to re-use them?

Hi guys, hope you can answer a question for me. My friend has Sky broadband in her current place and has the normal Netgear router. She's moving in with me into a new place tomorrow, so would it be possible/worthwhile for us to re-use her router with our new Sky account? I understand that the username and password for the account is hidden on the router, so presumably it's not easy to change?

The reason for me asking is because I saw it mentioned that Sky are using Sagem routers now, and I think I'd rather stick to the Netgear one unless the Sagems are OK.

Thanks for any help.

Don't know about using it for other connections but the username/password on the sky netgears is usually admin/sky, might be able to upgrade the firmware to a vanilla netgear one?

/Edit Just re-read what you put. You should be able to change the username and password once you have got into the web GUI, connect onto it using the above details and give it a go! Nothing ventured..

The OP's talking about the username and password for the ADSL, which is hidden by the Sky firmware.
I'd expect they'll ask for the router back when she cancels.

you can extract the ADSL username/password from the firmware and load it on another router.

Using it with another account will be hard unless you know the username and password for both.

Try checking out skyuser.co.uk

I thought the Sky adsl login was essentially authenticated by the mac address of the router ie only the router they supply for that servcie will connect to the adsl ??
