Im just in the process of moving into a new flat, i cant get cable but it has BT lines in all the room so its adsl. I am in the range of getting 16mb sky and i already have HD skyworld tv package but dont think im goin 2 keep it much longer as its to expensive and i dont watch it that often.

Ive paid for BT to connect the line, i can either get orange broadband 8mb for £5 a month or i can get 16mb sky for £10 a month, ive got an orange contract. i know some people have managed to get deals with sky or orange do you think i can? if so how much. cheers

anyway which should i go for?

From what I have seen SKY are OK is all you want to do is web browsing and a few downloads.

Orange on the other hand are rated as the worst ISP in the UK so I would steer well clear they even rate worse than Tiscali and TalkTalk.

Like the other poster says make sure you choose an ISP that gives you what you need rather than just the cheapest.

i want to join sky or orange because its the cheapest available, im already paying bt line rental, i cant afford much else.

long as you with your eyes wide oepn have a look over orangeproblems.co.uk ;)

Im on orange simply because of the contract and its reliable and i always get what my line can take however there prices and customer support is not the best :o

To be fair, i was with FS>Wanadoo>Orange for many many years and never really had any problems. This was a 512k line which i only got rid of about a month ago when i moved house. I just thought i'd stick that out there, as i think Sky is pure evil and would heartily recommend slitting your throat rather than give them money for any kind of service. All in my opinion, of course :)

EDIT: You can get a HomeLITE 12 package from Newnet for £9.49/month.

They're who i'm with now and the support is absolutely fantastic. It's like ringing a mate -- the phone rings a couple of times and they answer. They also know what they're talking about.

If you're planning to do any online gaming or using anything over 40gb per month then avoid them both like the clap. Do some homework and choose a company that actually has a commitment to their subscribers and the service they recieve. However you obviously have pay for that 'privelage'

Always keep in mind that 'you get what you pay for'. In this case it will ring absolutely true.
