Sky Plus HD to PC

Oddly enough, I've been looking into this myself.

There's a program called +Extract which can copy the DVB transport streams recorded on the SkyHD disk onto a PC. You can then use a program called Project X which will take those transport stream files and "demux" them into viewable MPEG2 files, provided the TV programme was recorded from a free-to-air channel (like the BBC channels).

If the programme was recorded from a free-to-view channel (like Sky Three) or a subscription channel (like Sky One), then the data will be stored on the disk in an encrypted format which so far has resisted all attempts to crack it, and probably won't be cracked in the foreseeable future. So basically, forget about trying to do that.

As for the space reserved for Sky Anytime, it is apparently fixed at 140GB. The standard disk on a SkyHD box is 300GB, thus leaving 160GB for user recorded material. Swapping the disk for a 500GB does, apparently, give 360GB for user recorded material, so you get more than double the space, even though the disk isn't double the size.

The maximum sized disk a SkyHD box can format is 500GB. It is possible to use an even larger disk, but you have to initialise in a PC using Copy+ before installing it in the SkyHD box.

There have been repors of sucessfully using 1TB drives - i only mention it becuase you might be asking about this becuase:
- you want to take stuff off the hdd becuase your running out of space
- you want to take stuff off the hdd to watch somewhere else

Hi, the only way l know of is by taking the Sky harddrive out and connecting it to your pc via sata and use x-copy from sky to transfer it to your PC harddrive, but them you have to rip it, basicly thats it.

You be better of buying a DVD-Player with a built in harddrive they don't cost the much, and connect that to your SkyHD, down load them to that, and ripthem, burn to disc, my m8 does it.

Use google to find out how to do it from the DVD-Player.;)

I hope thet helps a little, :)
OLDPHART.

Its about £200, It does indeed record HD from sources such as Sky+ in glorious DD 5.1 It has querks in the way you use it and you need to install updates such as a new CaptureModule.zip from ArcSoft to get it all to work properly.

I also came across a pci card that seems to do the same thing , a Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro HDMI Video Capture Card for about £140 . Know anything about them OLDPHART .... interested as I was looking at the same idea for a Virgin box .

Cheers for that - wanted to try and get the stoke match off espn hd.

if you are going to do all this just for a one-time recording, it isnt really worth it

i can tell you that the stoke match is already on the... interwebs... and available to acquire quite easily...
