Sky price hike

bah! - £20 is only for their 40/10 fibre service + they charge £50 for installation.
Bt are doing full 80 Down / 20 MB up for £20 for 4 months, then £26 pm after. Whereas sky charge £30 pm for the same service. (Theres cashback for BT too on TCB)

Sky customer services are getting pretty crap these days too. I gave my notice expecting a call back from their retentions team. They didn't bother calling me, when I eventually called them back they said I had to wait for the 'win-back' team to call me, no such call materialised so bye-bye sky. Havn't looked back since getting BT Infinity 2.

Seems to me that unless they can coax you into taking one of their rip-off TV packages - they're not really interested in phone/broadband as they make minimal profit from it. Its the TV packages they make money from (Not to mention the fact they put up even the basic TV package every single year too!)

PS - Beware of misschief's input - biased as I think he/she works for sky ;)

I do, but I think your position that Sky's customer service is crap because they didn't try to save you or offer you a discount strange. You said you wanted to cancel, not get a discount? Sky's level of churn (people leaving compared to people joining) is at its lowest level for years so they've really cut back on discounts and offers.

I base my outburst 'their customer service is crap' on the fact they don't call back when they say they will, and the fact that they were only interested in retention if I took a TV package with them. Couple the fact over 4 years I've had no end of trouble trying to negotiate 'first line' broadband support they aren't that far behind BT and their indian call centre!

Thats interesting you saying they've cut back on offers and discounts - because I constantly see 'special' cashback offers on the likes of TCB and colleagues and friends alike tell me how they got half price this, or half price that when they try to leave, tempting them back.......

Anyways - you clearly have a vested interest in promoting sky so not going to argue with you ;)

It's true that the TV subsidises the broadband and talk side of things and as someone that does 'first line' support I often have trouble negotiating clueless customers or difficult ones that don't do what you ask. Standalone broadband and talk for the prices sky charge is difficult to make a profit on!

Just got a letter telling me that my bill is going up by £2.25 a month for line rental, which means I will be paying £24.50 a month for boradband and line retal.
£10 pound for broadband
£14.50 for line rental
If I go firbre it will cost me £34.50 a month and a one of fee of £50
If I go to BT it will cost me £41.50 a month plus what ever the one off fee is.

by the way I don't work for any tech compannys just reclcyling.

yeah but you cant compare Sky fibre to BT, as Sky dont throttle or have bandwidth restrictions or download limits, where as BT I found to be totally rubbish at peak times

How does paying for sky talk 12 month line rental upfront show on your sky bill?

Money has been taken out of my bank account but is not showing up in my current / next bill? Any ideas?
