SKY price rises

Nope both have FUP's mate, Sky's top package does not.

Sky's top end package does have a FUP too. (edit: I see they've removed it now)

Either way, in practice, neither Sky/UKO or o2/Be enforce any limits on their high-tier LLU packages.

It wouldnt be so bad if they improve their customer service and also provide better speeds for people that suffer!

The SKY MAX product may not have a FUP but SKY still have a clause within the terms and conditions which allows them to act to protect the network:

(g) To protect our network and maintain quality of service for all our users we can temporarily or permanently control or restrict your online activities via Sky Broadband where such activities may have a detrimental effect on other customers’ quality of service and it is reasonable for us to do so (e.g. sending “spam” emails or hosting a website).

This is not just the case with SKY but is most likely the case across the board with all ISPs regardless of having a FUP or not.

and Be has already drop there prices due to VAT reduction.

And both are still more per month than Sky.

Excluding the fact that O2 or BeThere packages are advertised as 'Unlimited', the average Joe Public is more likely to attention to the up front cost of an ISP package than the bandwidth cap/allowance/FUP in small print.

Basic comparison of package prices (excluding any offers but including the proposed Sky increases in March 09):

Sky (Must be a Sky TV subscriber)

Base (non Sky Talk) = £5
Base (Sky Talk Freetime £0) = £0

Mid (non Sky Talk) = £10
Mid (Sky Talk Freetime £0) = £5

Max (non Sky Talk) = £15
Max (Sky Talk Freetime £0) = £10

O2 (Not required to be an O2 mobile customer)

Standard (non O2) = £12.23
Standard (O2 +£?? Monthly/£10 PAYG every 3 months) = £7.34

Premium (non O2) = £14.68
Premium (O2 +£?? Monthly/£10 PAYG every 3 months) = £9.79

Ultimate (non O2) = £19.57
Ultimate (O2 +£?? Monthly/£10 PAYG every 3 months) = £14.68

BeThere

Be Value = £13.50

Be Unlimited = £17.50

Be Pro = £21.50

Sky (Must be a Sky TV subscriber)
And that would appear to be a non sequitur - or rather, it only holds true if you want to be a Sky TV subscriber. I just cancelled mine because I actually watched Sky TV at all in only 4-5 of the last 24 months, and then only sporadically. I finally decided I probably wouldn't miss it.

With that decision made, it comes down to £17 (soon to be £22) for 2MB or £17.50 for all-you-can-eat on Be (possibly less on O2).

Of course, there is no right answer here. :)

I agree (though the £17 Connect price is not changing and O2 prices also semi dependant on being an O2 customer or not).

With many of the big media/communications companies trying to bring together 'triple play' or 'quad play' bundles there is no true fair way of comparing services.

recently went with sky talk and got 6 month free line rental. After that its same line rental as before - jobs a good un :)

They offered me 12 months free when I cancelled my Sky TV. I declined because I'd still have ended up paying more than I will having cancelled.

12 months free line rental wouldn't be too bad for me. I'm not likely to be leaving Sky anytime soon (rest of the family watch the football etc.) but that never stops me from implying that I am prepared to drop the lot at anytime (long since out of any contracts) and seeing what they offer to keep my business.
