Hi all

Last week I upgraded from sky adsl unlimited to the fibre max with a new sky q router. I was using a very old sagem router before which seemed to need a reboot every week but worked in between, but for the last month swapped to a D6400 Netgear I had spare which worked fine.

Over the weekend just gone with the sky q router the wifi has been terrible, devices just stopping working even though they show wifi connected, slower speeds and just generally flaky performance. Putting them into airplane mode and back out seems to get them back working straight away but they should all just be working regardless.

I've now turned off the wifi on the sky q router and added back the D6400 Netgear in AP mode and got it all working ok so far. Wifi seems better and pretty much back to how it was for the last month. So it definitely seems it the sky q router with useless wifi built in.

The problem I now have is that we've also done a similar upgrade for my father in law moving from BT infinity to Sky Fibre and he's also got the same sky q router having the same wifi issues. From what I've found out with the D6400 it seems a new AP needs purchasing for him to get it working reliably so the question is really which one?

Netgear do the WAC120 802.11ac which I've actually used before which is about £65 and seems the natural choice, but they also have the WAC104 also 802.11ac for the same money, but does anyone else have any better options?

Thanks

I've seen a load of these around, are they just the same as throwing an ethernet in the back from the sky router and then setting up the wifi on it? One problem I've got is price, seeing as it's me who suggested moving him to sky I've got to 'fix' it now as it's not working so I'm footing the bill for the new AP. However if there is a better option I'll probably end up swapping the D6400 I've got at home also.

Right, not sure if thats going to be possible then, I'm already 'in trouble' for it not working with just the sky q router, not that it's my fault that sky can't produce something that works of course, but having to buy a PoE switch to sit with the sky router and then another AP as well I can see being 'too complicated' for him. I'll see... thanks.
