Sky Q Question....

Hi quick question

currently have 2 x SKY HD boxes (with multi room)

If I upgraded to Sky Q + 1 Mini Box

could I take that mini box and plug it into my mates satellite dish and will it work?

or does the mini box rely on the main SkyQ box to work via wifi?

Just wondering what my options are as currently I am able to take my sky box and plug it into my mates dish and it actually works.

No, it connects back to the main Q box.

You only need power to it, then a hdmi to tv, no aerial.

Edit: Forgot to mention, they tend to replace your LNB also, so you may find you cant just take it to your mates anymore.

that doesn't sound good for me then.....

is the LNB tied to the actual box?

so in theory the Sky Q box's biggest disadvantage is it will never work away from my home. Whereas I could plug the sky HD box into any sky dish and it will work.

Its not tied to the box, I didnt know people still took their Sky boxes to Friends houses, just log into Sky Q App and stream?

yes not only that but sky is not cheap by any stretch of imagination

but if you share the costs across households it certainly is.
