Sky+ Recordings Question

Quick one that can hopefully be answered easy peasy.

In the house where I am currently living with a mate, he has his own Sky+ HD box that is working great and he has almost come to fill the HDD with all hte stuff he likes to watch. Me and Mrs S have a Sky+HD box from our previous house (account fully cancelled so know there is no way of seeing what we recorded on there).

My mate is due to move oout to new job and will not be taking hte box with him, but was wanting to use my own as it has more HDD space.

I know that I can get the card in the current box paired ot my box so allowing full functionality, but what I was wondering is that can my mate then have the card paired back to his box in the future so allowing him to view all that he has recorded?

Hope that makes some sense to someone....other than my confuse head :D

Just checked with Sky and they said it is fine. Nothing wil get deletred and you can shuffle the card around as many times as needed.....

First of all you can easily see what has been recorded on your box all you need to do is plug it in. To view it though you need to have an active sub to the channel it was recorded from and have a card paired from that sub to the box.

Second of all why would he want to leave all of his recordings behind?

Do you ever plan on having sky again?

Is he willing to pay you for the box?

depending on these things I would then factor in the best solution for me. if he isn't willing to pay for the box and you never want to have sky again then you could sell it on gumtree/ebay/members market and i'm assuming it's a 2TB box you could get £50+ for it quite easily maybe even £75.

500GB HD boxes go for £20 so if that is what he is swapping you for it's £30-£50 out of your pocket.

I will be cancelling sky within 3 months and i will be selling the boxes on gumtree, no point in keeping them because if i sign back up with sky they will give me brand new boxes for free. stupid to keep boxes unless you want the recordings on them or as a backup.

Psycho

We are keeping Sky going at the place we are at, Mrs S too addicted to cooking programmes to get rid, plus means I can watch full F1 season in HD.

No money wil be swapping hands as he is very good mate. He will be keeping his box and when we move out into our new house we will be get a new subscription for Sky and so new box.

He is leaving them behind as he is going to be moving furhter up teh country due to work, but not selling house and will be back there on a few occassions

Had dug the box out of our storage boxes a few weeks back, just havent got round to swapping and pairing and as he moves out on Sunday and has one very full HDD of stuff to watch, did not want to go deleting stuff on him that he wants and also wanted to make sure it was stil available for him to view in the future if he so desires
