I've managed to get a good upgrade deal with Sky. I'm a Fibre Pro customer and getting about 76Mb but using an old Sky SR-101 router originally supplied in 2013. It came with a separate, external, BT made openreach modem which I connect the DSL line into and then send an Ethernet cable from it and into the Sky router.

With the new Sky Q Hub, will the modem be needed still? I've read the DSL cable from the master socket simply goes straight into it. Sounds much better. Also, is the Sky Q a decent step up? The SR-101 hasn't been too bad for me but I'm now realising it apparently has poor Wi-Fi speeds. I am hoping for a nice improvement.

You won't need the Openreach modem. I don't think the Q Hub even has an Ethernet WAN port that'd allow you to connect it.

The Openreach modems are still useful for many people and they still have some value, especially the Huawei version. If you want to get rid of it there are better homes than the bin.

No real idea about how the wireless on the Q Hub performs, but if you're happy with the SR101 you should be fine. The Q Hub only has two Ethernet ports so you'l need to buy a network switch if you have more than two wired devices.

Thanks. Oddly, I noticed this morning that the SR-101 has a DSL port. So wondering if I've even been needing the modem at all now!

The only issue I've encountered with the Sky Q Hub is the 5ghz Wifi Mesh doesnt play ball with iPhone's - moreover because the iPhone itself is the problem but can be easily fixed by changing the SSID's names and attaching the iPhone to the 2.4ghz band.

If you have a Q mini box youll want this on the 5ghz band.

If you have any issues, MissChief in the Sky thread in Home Cinema & Hifi page is a Sky Tech and she's very active on the forums.

Shawrey.
