Hey guys,

Recieved my Sky router yesterday all ready for my BB to be activated on thursday.

Just got a few questions though. Are they any good ? Do they have a web interface ?

It all ready setup with a wireless key but think i may change it as i want something a big easier for myself to remember, since i'll be connecting my Blackberry, My Gf's Blackberry, Her laptop, My Laptop and my PC (cabled)

Never used a ADSL router as i have always had Virgin broadband which obviously uses a modem.

Thanks

Yeah they have a web interface, which did you receive?
Had a lot of troubles with my last sagem one, poor wireless, poor stability, serious heat issues.

you'll be able to access the router settings page by browsing to 192.168.0.1.

The default username is admin and the password is sky.

I've had my Sky one for coming on 2 years and the wireless has been getting steadily worse over the last 6 months, randomly dropping for 20 minutes at a time is its favourite trick.

I was also under the impression that you couldn't use 3rd party routers or is that a big fat lie?

I have my Belkin N1 Vision (which I used to use with Virgin) connected to my Sky router without any problems mate. It's because I wanted Gigabit networking which the Sky router doesn't support - and yes, I disabled WIFI on the Sky router and use my N1 router for wireless - it all works seemlessly ;)

You can use whatever you want, but they won't give you phone support if you tell them you're using your own modem.

For the old sky modems (Netgear, Sagem): https://www.cm9.net/skypass/
For the new sky modems (D-link): http://pathogenrush.blogspot.com/search/label/DSL2640S

I received the new D-link DSL-2640 modem last week, got the username and password and it's now back in the box :D

Ive had no particular problems with my sky router in terms of speed and connectivity, the wireless is weak tho so you might want a separate wireless AP if your demanding on wireless, i use a netgear N class router with the DCHP disabled as my access point instead of the wireless on the sky router.

sagem one has been fine for me

server, ps3, main pc all hard wired

blackberry, kindle, laptop, couple of phones etc all wireless.

Never missed a beat!

I know its a D-Link one, forgot the model number........

What i'll probably do is see how things go with it, if its crap i'll connect the netgear rouer virgin sent me a while back for wireless :D
