Hi all,

hope this is the right place for this little query...

I've got a Sky engineer coming to fit a new HD+ box on Saturday.

We've just moved and so Sky are also providing the phone line/BB but that isn't being activated until Monday next week.

So, will the TV setup be alright?

A silly question on the face of it, But the emails I've recieved from Sky say to ensure there is a working landline present - even though they allowed me to schedule setup in advance of the phone line.

Will the TV engineer be OK with this do you think?

Phone line just controls the interactive services doesn't it?

I don't think you will have access to anytime, box office or the really exciting games.
Best thing to do is to slap an ethernet in there when you can to get anytime+.

I think the TV will work fine.

As has been said, not strictly enforced for single boxes. The only problem is if you want anything PPV as that does require a telephone line. Do you have an existing BT socket or is it a new line they're putting in?

It's not enforced because (as far as I know) it's not in the T&Cs for single box subscriptions. I've never had mine connected and Sky charged me £30 at the time of installation (four years ago) for the installer's 'inconvenience' of pairing the box manually using his mobile 'phone. So it was all above board and by the book!

I believe they have since scrapped this charge though.

You only need to have your STBs connected to the 'phone line if you have Multiroom.

Multi room here 3x stb none connected to the phoneline at install or any other time over the last 2 years never had a problem with it

I dont have mine connected to a phone line but hooked it up to my router to get iplayer etc

As above. If I go to the Sky Store for movie rentals etc it says I need to phone up, so I'm guessing that's where the active phone line would normally come into play. Would be nice to know what the prices are for movie rentals, but I imagine it isn't cheap.

yes would be no problem im a sky installer and your tv will be up and running without a phone line no problem. Just that if you want to use interactive services make sure the engineer runs the phone cable to the telephone socket for when it becomes live or you will have to phone up for box office etc.

Usually around £3.50. I've never ordered one so not sure how long it would stay on your HDD for.
