*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

Another £6 increase on the back of the news about HBO/Disney etc

I do enjoy the platform and ease with I can watch 4k Sports even though the pucks are lacking, however going to have to consider options in the Summer when my deal is up.

Just about to cancel ours based on the latest increase, we barely watch live TV; I think the only thing we'll really miss is the ability to record, but with everything going streaming/on-demand these days, it's only a minor inconvenience really.

We reduced to the minimum TV package. I was happy to pay the monthly fee to save us spending £200 on a new freeview alternative, especially as the Sky+ box has a nicer interface and is a lot more reliable than the freeview boxes that've seen from Humax and Manhattan.

I did ask about a reduced package, would be happy to pay say £10-15/month just to keep the recording functionality, but no luck, instead they decided to offer me a package £20/month more than I'm currently paying, but I get a new TV included... I bought a new TV less than 6 months ago

Anyway, cancellation now processed, and ordered a new LNB so we can use the dish to get Freeview directly on the TV. Now to decide if it's worth keeping Netflix or ditching it completely.

We're paying £15 a month for "TV Essentials" - And yes, that does give you HD standard channels.

We moved to the cheapest Netflick option recently, and it's fine. Very few adverts.

I only renewed in December, for 24 months. Might need to give them a ring to let them know I’m not happy at all with the price rises, as it’s going up from £77pm to £85pm, over a 10% rise!

the sky "change your plan" actually being "add to you plan" is really deceptive, you can not remove stuff online, only add stuff.

We have just realised that my grandparents have been spending over £150pm on their sky package, a frightening amount of money and definitely more than they need to be spending. I think they have been with them over 20yrs and must have bene out of contract a while so just been on a rolling price.

They have offered a 24mth package on the website when I login but it's hardly any better. £43pm for broadband is apparently a deal, they are on the 35mb package.

I can't really move them away as they so used to the service and remote etc but the price is ridiculous.

Sky know most people threaten to cancel but then don't, if you get them to actually give their notice you'll likely get a call from the retentions team in the next week or so seeing what they can do to keep them.

You can always call them in that time and cancel the cancellation and take the rubbish deal they've been offered, as a worst case scenario.

I went ahead with our cancellation a while back and Sky were in touch in the days after the cancellation offering me much better deals to come back. And as all the equipment is there it's easy for it to all be reactived, I decided against it personally.

MissChief on the forum here can usually get you a friend's and family link for some slightly better deals.
