Looking to make a saving by switching over to the triple package offer that Sky is doing atm.

Currently have Sky tv, internet from Vigin cable, phone BT.

Sky says 'up to 8mb' connection, but I know this is influenced by distance from exchange etc.

Is there anyway I could check that I would be getting the same speed as I currently do from Virgin Cable?

Or check my distance from the exchange etc?

I don't want to switch if its going to mess up my internet. Also, I presume there are some limits to the connection they offer in this deal?

Cheers in advance...

the virgin Internet speed wont be the same as the sky speed as ones on cable and the others over bt line (which you will have to get unless you already have one) best thing to do is ask neighbours was sort of dsl speed they get or try samknows.com and see what your post code brings up.

Also its not the length of the cable its more the quality of signal over it, so you could have a really short line thats crap or a long line thats half decent. Also knowing the distance to your exchange wont help as wires arnt routed the quickest/shortest way

All depends on YOUR line no guarantees can be made EVER.

Hmm

Ok looking on that samknows site it says my exchange is about 2.7miles away. That seems pretty far.

It also says that sky / easynet LLU is enabled. LLU stands for local loop unbundling, but what does that mean?

there are no guarantees in this world but I am pretty pleased with mine. No transfer problems at all. I went for the additional 'unlimited' £10 package. Free kit is Ok though I use my own router (you need to get the password from the sky router.) I flashed the sky netgear kit and gave to my kids.

I was with Plusnet paying £22 a month. I have gained an extra 1/2 MB to 4.4mb. I live miles away from the exchange. But lost 14ms in ping time - 24-38ms which i can live with just.

Miles or Km?

Anyway for mine it says 4.51km however the line runs roughly 5.5km

Cheers for the answers, I might as well give them a try I think for the saving I will make.
