Sky Unlimited Sync speed halved since plugging in phone

Hello All,

I have had sky unlimited broadband for about a week, and for the last few days it has been syncing at near 20mbit.

Today I plugged in a phone into the microfilter and thought nothing of it. I have now gone on the PC about 2 hours later and noticed the sync speed has reduced to just over 8 mbit.

Does anyone know why this may be? Will it return to the near 20mbit soon?

Thanks in advance for replies.

I think something is going wrong with sky as my speed has been reduced by half whilst the noise margin has gone up (I think)'

This does seem to be a network issue as there are similar complaints on the sky help forum.

This is nothing to do with the network.

If the noise margins change when a phone is connected shows a fault with the filter or the phone its self.

Hi, l take it you have unplugged the phone and rebooted router to see if that is the cause and see if your speed is back to 20mb?

Sounds like that phone is introducing noise onto the line that the microfilter isn't attenuating properly.

Swap the microfilter....then if thins don't improve change the phone.

Thanks for the replies all.

I disconnected and reconnected and the speed resynced at just under 20mbit.

I forgot that I had initially plugged the phone in without the microfilter by accident, I think this may have triggered the sync speed being lowered. :)

That would do it. Without a filter, the connection simply won't perform.

Have you looked on the sky help forum as there's several threads there about speed suddenly dropping for no reason.

Nothing has changed with my setup since it was connected except for the defective firmware sky introduced to their sagem routers last month which causes constant disconnections and is probably why my download speed has now been cut in half.
