Okay so at the moment my parents have upgraded their sky package, well just telephoned to get a new box and lower the price.

Their on virgin as well and are getting charged £55 for a 30mb connection, a non hdtv box which they dont use and a phone line. Which bought the bill up to £60 odd last month.

They don't even advertise that speed anymore on their site!

What should I tell them to do? sky have a load of offers that you can add. Is their internet any good.?

Thanks for any help.

If your parents have both Sky's and Virgin's TV packages, and yet don't use the Virgin but are still happily paying for both then they can't be that bothered. Maybe it's not a big deal to them financially?

As for a direct response, Sky's broadband doesn't get that much of a positive press amongst users. As a customer myself I can say that the only advantage is that it is at least unlimited. We have two broadband lines in the house. Sky's is a bolt-on to the TV package and includes the telephone calls too. My other ISP is PlusNet for my business line.

None of the ISPs deliver their quoted speeds for various reasons. There's plenty of review sites that give user opinions and average speeds from submitted line tests. If you're just looking to cut costs then have a look at a bundled deal with Sky by all means, but weigh up the total costs and then factor in something for the convenience of an "all in" deal.

WRT TV services, IMO Sky offers the best quality of any paid for service and I'd choose it over Virgin every time.

Phone up Virgin, speak to customer services (or the UK "I want to leave" office), and ask for a better package. For about 60 quid you should be getting their "Big Kahuna" package at standard pricing which is only a few levels under their top service including 150mbit, XL TV, Tivo box, free weekend phone calls, etc.

If you don't need 150 mbit, then you should be able to choose a lesser package and save money. Their job is to help you stay and be happy with the service, so if you don't go at them all guns blazing, they will likely sort you out.

Thanks for the replies.

I think they got left in the dust with the upgrades. and the price is near the top deal like you said.

Well its between sky and downgrading virgin. But from the looks of it if they downgrade they get a faster connection.

Hhmm
