Really torn, I haven't used either provider before so I can't really decide which would be best.

All I need is for it to be fast, reliable and unlimited.

Sky (up to 40mbit): £24.50 for first 6 months then £34.50 thereafter (inc line rental) +£50 quidco

Plusnet (up to 69mbit): £27.49 for first 9 months £34.49 thereafter (inc line rental) +£70 quidco

Any input from anyone please?

Sky is 12m contract, so go for that if you want short commitment.

otherwise Plusnet.

I know it may sound stupid, because you probably already checked/know, but can you not get Virgin?

No cable available in my area.

Also Sky's broadband/tv incentive is irrelevant to me because I'm not having a TV license.

Tough one. Plusnet did apply extra traffic shaping during the iOS 7 update. Who knows what they'll do in the future. I'm not a fan of the whole traffic prioritisation system.

I would probably pick Sky at this point.

Most ISP's will have done this though. They will be protecting the network over updating peoples IOS

I am in the same boat and I am thinking of going with Zen, their customer support is supposed to be awesome:

Unlimited Fibre 2

  • Award-winning UK based support
  • 12 month contract
  • No traffic management
  • Static IP address as standard
  • Routers from £29.95

Up to
41.6Mbps download speed

Up to
6.5Mbps upload speed
Truly Unlimited Usage

Cheap calls with no setup fee

Add 5000 Anytime Minutes
£25

FREE activation

+£17 line rental

You also get static IP whereas the others are dynamic.
*That speed reflects my personal line speed, which is 42mbit down and 6.5mbit up.

Think plusnet is going to be the one for me as I'm on a budget.

Standard ADSL isn't an option because predicted speed is between 1 and 3.5mbit vs predicted 69mbit for fibre.

I personally don't mind the shaping on Plusnet, and I've never noticed it. Static IP, fantastic support and easily being able to use your own router won me over.

Good article here on why they did what they did with iOS7:

I like them as they are up front with what they do and why they do it.

Totally unlimited internet with no QOS on it isn't as good as it sounds. Just talk to any network engineer who uses VoIP.

I've been happy with Plusnet too since switching from Be*. The support via the forums is extremely quick so problems get sorted/escalated quickly.

Traffic shaping has been unnoticeable for me too (on unlimited ADSL2+) and for a one off £5 payment you can get a static IP address which is very handy.
