Hi all, just changed my ISP from NTL to sky ( ADSL ) & I've a lot of problems
with it - ie. keep getting disconnected, very low transfer - 1 mbs at times, other times I can be getting 12 mb/s or more though . I've tried a few times to play battlefield 2 online but it's just a nightmare- I get to go online for about 1 - 3 minutes before I get " there is a problem with your connection " message - it's really PI@@ing me off.

Has anyone else had problems with sky broadband ?

I actually think it's my wireless connection thats the problem, my router is about 40 ft away from my wireless adaptor so it shouldn't be a problem allthough the signal has to pass through 2 walls ( only plasterboard though ).

Assuming it is my wireless signal thats the problem what would you reccommend - I'm thinking I'd be better off just getting a phone line put in the room where my computer is & being NON WIRELESS, I've never been keen on the idea of wireless anyway.

Any recommendations would be appreciated .

30ft is the wireless indoor range, with 1 ore 2 walls, plasterboard sometimes has a aluminium backing which screws with the signals big time.

get closer if its still flakey it aint the wireless, give them a call and raise it, we will look at the line and stats.

if you wish to non wireless, always best. Then dont go for a phone extension as these can also cause issues either go with a nice bit of cat5 cable or home plugs.

Cheers for the advice Dave, that Cat5 cable - thats like a REALLY long ethernet cable isn't it, I'd have to go for the 30 M cable, do you think that would be ok - seems like the best option, I dont mind running a bit of cable around my house if it will sort my ***** connection out.

No swearing! FF.

yup that would get you sorted m8, I have cat 5 running to my next door neighbours so hes on the lan through the attic :p

What do the logs in your router say ? if it's rebooting/resyncing then you can run as much cable as you want but you are barking up the wrong tree. Save yourself some agro and have a look :)

If it's just the wireless falling over, the wired should be fine, still worth a check though.
