Looking to upgrade the trusty 2500K with a shiney new Processor/Board and Ram. (skylake is currently being looked at in august) All I use my PC for is gaming/browsing.. Ideally I'd like this upgrade to last as long as the 2500K so wondering whether to go I7 or go I5.

Anyone know if the I7 hyperthreading will make a big difference gaming over the next few years or will the I5 be a good starting point and then sell on and upgrade to an I7 once more game utilise the extra grunt an I7 gives ?

just seems performance has seemed to have slowed down over the past few weeks... Overclock dropped off 1 week and could really feel the difference.. back to 4.2 now and not as bad .

Just feel an upgrade is due to make it a lot 'snappier'.

+1 Get a 5820K, you get 2 extra cores + 28 PCI-E 3.0 lanes and its available now.

Have been tempted a couple of times about grab my an x99 setup.

Might price up what an x99 will be compared to a rough skylake price.. Tbh I don't think there will be much in it price wise.
