Skylake Micro ATX build check

I currently I have a 7990 but I am going to guess its not going to fit with the vertical AIO?

I have MSI gtx 970 and I've been told in would be too tall and so it will touch the side panel... It's very likely you will have the same problem..

Yeah your right, I'll have to replace that with a EK Water Blocks Predator 240.

I think the 7990 might fit by the skin of its teeth its only 11cm tall and it looks to be a 12cm ceiling? I think a reference 970 would fit but any sign of a heatpipe out the top on a custom pcb is going to cause issues :s

That's right specially if it has a heatpipe, no point pushing it..

Since this really the only case I can fit, I am not seriously considering selling my MSI gtx 970. No looking back!

Main reasons:
1. X99 = Discontinued/dead
2. 8% better ipc than X99
3. More than 8 threads isn't useful to me, I don't encode videos etc.
4. The possibility to drop in Skylake-e in a year or two or perhaps a xeon further down the line like I have done with my current x58.

There are going to be no new chips so i would argue it is. Still plenty of life in it but there is no future or upgrades.

Boardwell-E is expected to use the 2011-3 socket so there will be future chips. Skylake-E which will follow them will certainly not use the same socket as Skylake (1151). There will be a Skylake refresh for 1151 and from what intel have been saying possibly another chip after that since the tick-tock is no longer working but performance improvements are likely to be minimal.

I think there are valid reasons for choosing Skylake over X99 but platform lengevity is not a good one IMO.
