A question for the knowledgable people here,

Is skylake worth the extra in comparison to an older model i5/i7 cpu as I notice the motherboard bundle with the 6600k has gone up to £323 now

Thanks

Skylake pricing has lost the plot in the UK recently, a penny short of 390 notes for the I7 is insane when the 5820k can be had for 100 notes or so less. Even on shop prices here you save nearly 80 quid! Anyone supporting buying an i7 Skylake over X99/5820K is now on seriously slippy ground

and X99 is worth the upgrade for many over Haswell and earlier platforms. Skylake now offers particular poor VFM

This what happens when AMD are behind

If they go under it would be awful for pricing

Lets just hope Zen brings better competition to help drive cost down for the community

There are people I know on forums who still bought them at £300 despite everyone saying it was a poor choice.

Yet according to some retailers its a top seller at £300 to £350.

Considering Skylake quad core chips are a similar die area to something like a Core i3 2100,its just hilarious.

Often you see people complain about the price of X99 motherboards. With the 80 quid premium of the 6700k over the 5820k, it kinda negates the slightly higher cost of an X99 board.

Not to mention the fact that if you want to take advantage of Skylake's supposed clocking benefits you will need to buy a decent mobo anyway.

Plus IIRC, DX12 can in theory use all 6 cores to multi-thread rendering on Haswell-E, so long term Skylake might not be a good investment for "long haul" purchasers.

Forget Skylake go X99 8Pack approved Bundle mark 2

Much better in all multithread and very similar in games. DX12 way more potential too.

Quite surprised that Gigabyte haven't released some kind of USB3.1 refreshes of any of their X99 motherboards, which makes me think that they are waiting for Broadwell-E before releasing a refresh.

Anyhow, gotta say that 8pack approved 5820K bundle is rather tempting.
My strong dislike of atheros killer NIC's makes me weary of the Gigabyte X99 Gaming 5P though.

Plus I still prefer air cooling to closed loop coolers.

Regarding Skylake, it's just not worth it unless you're building a really small pc and need a the cooler processor.
