Is there a second video in device on the system?
Have you looked in the Skype options to confirm that it's using the wbcam for video?

Yea looked at the options, its not appearing, even though its working for microphone :-S tried it over MSN as well, same problem, black screen with audio

Nope only uses USB. It's been reinstalled, had drivers removed and then reinstalled, but still the same problem - not recognised as a video device by any programs, only audio. It shows up in device manager under imaging devices, but not recognised anywhere else
She's a bit peeved given that it was an expensive camera, but its still within warranty - its the only thing left i can think of, that its broken

doesn't have a shutter on the front of the camera does it? :p
