Hello all.

When i speak to my friend via Skype, i can hear every sound her computer makes.

It's not being picked up by her microphone, it's like it's being transmitted.

Every sound her computer makes, whether it's music, or an error noise is being sent and it's infuriating.

Is there any solution?

Thanks

Has she correctly pathed what sounds go where? I.e. microphone sounds to be used by Skype as voice, and nothing else.

Not only does it need setting up in Skype's options, but in windows sounds folder too sometimes.

Its possible to send all sounds out via Skype e.t.c.
She will need to open the sound card mixer and ensure that only the MIC is enabled in the record section. The default Windows (XP) mixer uses a cross box (mute) to diable all the others. 'What you hear', 'Stereo Mix' or 'Wave' come to mind. Just make sure it's the Record section your looking at.

My Realtek panel. I've circled the disabled ports. Only the MIC is enabled.

I'm afraid I don't have it installed, and the last version I used was around version 3 I think.

It should be a tick box below the three drop down menus for setting up sound devices within Skype's options' menu.

Run Skype.

At the top, click Tools then Options.
Look on the Sound DSevices page.

Taken from v3.1.0.144 but also in every other version I've used.

Sounds like "What you hear" (or whatever other sound card equivilents are on) option is on rather than microphone.

In Options - > Audio settings under Microphone make sure you try all the various options there (Normally its 'Microphone (Sound card here)')
