Hi Guys,

Just installed Skype Lite on my girlfriends phone (Samsung U900) as it's the only version of Skype that will work.

Created her a Skype account, added myself blah de blah.

Anyway, I noticed when calling my skype from her phone skype it mentioned something regarding airtime. Then it looked like the phone dialled an actual number.

From reading up the skype website;

*Costs for using the lite version of Skype:
You will be charged by your mobile operator for local air time and data usage based on the type of calling service and data plan you have purchased. Since the lite version of Skype uses a mobile data connection to sign in to Skype, update your contact list, update presence and send/receive messages, you will be charged by your mobile operator for data usage. You will not incur charges from Skype when you make Skype-to-Skype calls or send instant messages to friends on Skype; however national calling rates apply from your mobile operator due to the use of local air time.

Will using this cost me? I thought the whole idea of Skype to Skype was the fact it would be free? Why is Skype lite dialling a number and not routing over the data network?

Thanks,

It is routing over the data network but you still have to PAY for your data usage via your mobile network which is what that piece of information you quoted from skype is telling you.

Ah right ok. So the fact that the phone seems to be physically dialling a number when I dial a Skype contact isn't indicative that it's actually making a call......
