Is there any way to get Skype on my TV using my existing equipment, controlled by a remote and with a large screen UI?

I've got a Windows 7 HTPC that I use for xbmc, a USB webcam, a Microsoft Media Centre remote, plus a PS3 and a 360 if there are options there. My TV has a network connection but don't think that's an avenue (it's a fair few years old, a Sony EX401).

What, if any, options are there? I can obviously use Skype on the PC but its hardly sofa friendly, and I can't figure out a way to control it well with a remote.

This is spurred by the Xbox One Skype app, which is brilliant, but I'm not paying £400 to occasionally chat to my parents :p

I don't know much about the media centre remotes, but I use Skype from a sofa (so much better) via my Windows 7 HTPC by using my smartphone (Galaxy Note II) as a remote via the excellent Universal Remote app.

I'm assuming your media centre remote can wake the PC from sleep, then you just need to start the universal remote app and use the screen on your smartphone to control the mouse cursor. You can launch Skype from universal remote's file system explorer too if you so wish.

I also have a Logitech harmony remote but haven't bothered setting this up to control Windows, only to control the hardware.

Of course this all assumes you have a smartphone :p.

I've got control though my wireless keyboard, and I could setup my phone to control it, but it still uses the standard desktop UI. I'm looking for a UI thats designed for TV's.
