hi, not sure why or even how to fix this
when talking to my brother on skype as we use skype when playing games, the volume will be fine 1 second and stupid loud the next.
its more background noise than him talking that gets loud.

does anyone else have this or know of a solution?

thanks Ali

As far as i know there is no solution to it, skype still seems to adjust the volume itself even when you have disabled auto volume control.
It really is annoying, if someone sings on the other end skype cranks the volume up lol.

The only solution i found that works fairly well is wearing a headset mic which only picks up your voice and not the background noise.

I find when using Skype that if you're quiet for a bit, the mic tends to focus on whatever noise it can grab - even with sound off - in the case of me, it tends to pick up my gf's laptop fan - highly annoying....

Best thing I can suggest if this is the problem you're having - which it seems similar too, is to just keep talking xD

.. are any of the skype alternatives better .. anyone tried google talk ?
to keep background noise down a more directional desk mic also works better
for me than inbuilt vaio laptop mic.
[I dislike that skype calls are not bi-directional and cannot hear other whilst
you speak ..but this seems also true for land line conf call systems]

Depending on your card (most Realteks should, anyway) you might have options to enable noise cancellation. You might need to upgrade your drivers to make the options available:

It made Skype a lot better for me.
