Skype problem today!

Hey chaps, need some help narrowing down a problem.
I use skype a lot, like all the time. Used it last night without issue as usual. Boot up this morning and computer works fine. Mate comes online at 11 and I skype ring them. Call starts off fine but then skype starts cutting out, cuts off and the window freezes. Windows desktop and related items also freeze. In the mean time the video I am watching runs fine as does the game I am playing. But cant use windows to close down the program.
I've tried updating skype and reinstalling it, but everything works perfectly until I call someone.
Nothing new has been installed on my machine since yesterday so cant fathom whats happened!

Skype got updated yesterday
 
Yes it did indeed! But I was having this problem this morning before I chose to update, and then updated after the problem to see if that would fix it, but no joy. Unless there was a sneaky no opt out update they did on the sly as well?

I would have thought gaming whilst skyping would cause problems tbh. Do you need to do both at once?
