After reading the below I am most dissapointed.
http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/t355446.html

I know people still judge how their pc performs against crysis1/2, gta, metro etc.. but with the exception of crysis 2, these games I feel are are long in the tooth. Hell, I didn't even finish metro as I thought it was dead boring. In fact it's been forgotten about in the console community until the recently announced sequel which stirred up interest, but it's still used as a benchmark in many PC forums. I finished GTA on the PS3 and again on the PC along with Crysis 1 and 2 and haven't gone back to them since. Same with the likes of Oblivion, Fallout 3, and countless other PC games. And I'm pants at RTS's so don't bother with Shogun 2.

So the list of PC games I can see this year that I most likely will be interested in are below :

Deus Ex Human Revolution
Warhammer :Space Marine
Battlefield 3
MW 3
Rage
Skyrim

From what I can see Deus Ex and Warhammer looks pretty sub par. Skyrim is optimised for the console. Perhaps the others won't be.

The PC has the advantage of the obvious mouse+keyboard control and can offer higher resolution, higher FPS, and lashings of AA and other effects. The console games are usually upscaled 720p (or less) with the Xbox limited to 2x MSAA and the PS3 to MLAA or no AA at all on the consoles (Unreal engine games). But if the game engine is still primarily designed for a console this means it's not taking advantage of all the new DX10/11 features and not getting the most out of my cards. And there is always the chance a game is badly ported and in fact will perform sub-par on the PC relative to what it should be performing like.

So is there any hope at all for some nice PC games, or have developers given up on using the PC as the primary platform. I have pretty much run out of PC games to play. And I imagine I won't be upgrading again for a very long time, even if I could afford to, or at least until the next generation of consoles arrive which I suppose will drive higher fidelity across the board.

Yes, I have seen the youtube videos on BF3 and they looked amazing. I'm not sure if they were for the console or the PC version, though the faultline video doing the rounds on Xbox live is most certainly the console version. Hopefully the PC version will have high resolution textures, and of course the inevitable mods will be there for it. Looking forward to that and hoping I will be able to play at 7680x1600. I have never played any of the BF games other then Bad Company 2 on the 360.

PC version is the lead sku, it's the one they've been using to demo the game and for all the vids, including at E3, in all it's DX11 glory.

can't help you with your question but looking at your specs you have need to upgrade for the forseeable future as you say, btw what speakers do you have?

I have the logitech z-5500 but only a creative x-fi xtreme gamer so looking for a new sound card that'll make use of the speaker specially in games, have a q6600@3ghz and 5850(750/1000) with the u2711(recently bought the monitor) but looking at upgrading to i2500k(or a new ivy bridge if the price/performance is right) and 2x sapphire 6950 toxic(hopefully I'll get ones that unlock the shaders so 6970s) so not quite as high spec as yours but should do me for a few years(much higher spec than pcs I've had over the years).

Wow..I didn't realise that BF3 was the lead sku. Like I said I never played a BF game on the PC and really didn't research it much. Looking forward to it now.

Speakers - I am using Monitor Audio Bronze BXX 5.1 speakers in the bedroom which is overkill I know. And a Sony STR-DH810 amp. I use this amp/speaker setup with my Dell U3011's for PC and a Panasonic TX-L42D25 42" LCD for my 360 and PS3. As my amp like most only supports 1080P max for hdmi passthru (video and audio), for PC sound I am using the optical output from my Asus soundcard to the amps optical input.

The X-Fi extreme gamer's analog outputs are suited for the z-5500. Perhaps one of the budget Asus models might offer higher fidelity but I doubt it would be noticeable. Plus if your sound card has an optical out you can run a toslink optical cable and let the logitech amp do all the 5.1 decoding. That's pretty much what I do. The only reason I have an Asus Essence STX in my rig is because I do a lot of headphone listening at night and wanted an onboard headphone amp.

The Witcher 2 although still using DX 9, is also a stunning looking game. There are other games too if you mod them.

You might want to try and get into modding some games, the results speak for themselves.

There is the Stalker complete series, Bethesda's titles, GTA IV with iCE+ high rez texture mods, MS FSX can all be improved(and use the gpu more). There is many more games that can be modded too.

Skyrim, although developed for console, will no doubt have a huge modding scene(which will probably bring any current PC to it's knees).

Thanks. The problem is I have finished all these games :( I know modding them can improve the image quality drastically but to be honest I don't think I'd go back and recomplete them. I did it with Oblivion and a couple of others. In fact I redid all the Stalker games with mods. But I never fully re-finished them :) I just couldn't last the distance. The only exception I can think of in recent times is both Mass Effect games which I got about 50% of the way through on the 360, and then went back and restarted them on the PC. The graphical fidelity on the PC was miles ahead. Now, I usually finish a game and I like to move on, and as I'm not a huge multiplayer (due to poor ping rates where I live and limited broadband options) I have limited replayability.

Which brings me back to my original question. Besides BF3 is there a lack of new PC lead games ?
