Hi,

I recently started playing Skyrim again, no problems from where I left off last, quick-saved all the time for a few weeks and no problems, I log on today and i can only "continue" or "load" from my hard saves (which is 20 or so levels ago), which are from a month ago.

Is there any way I can access my quick-saves or auto saves? They are still in the save folder in C:\Users\Traffic_Warden\Documents\my games\skyrim\saves

* I should add, I was playing a few minutes before this happened fine too, that's probably the top three quicksaves... And then i reloaded just now and i'm back to my hard saves

Perhaps there was a crash? At least the .tmp extension would suggest something went wrong.

Assuming you meant that the quick save files showing as .tmp/.bak are from when the game was running a later save then you are fortunate, as the .bak extension signifies backups and you can simply remove the .bak extension to reveal fully functional save game with only the .ess extension.

You will have to enable viewing of known file extension by changing it from file and folder options.

Also, I suggest making proper saves more often.

Assuming you are using windows 7 - or that windows 8 uses the same options - click on the organise drop-down menu, it should be present at the top of the folder containing the files; from there choose folder and search options, followed by the tab labelled view. Find the tick box labelled hide extensions for known file types and un-check it. Press OK.

Now you will see each file with known and unknown extensions, i.e, you will see all your quick and autosave files with either a .tmp or .bak extension. Edit the quicksave file to remove the .bak part, agree to any warnings that are shown.

And that should be it, you could also try renaming the files with the .tmp extensions, but I am not sure if they will be functional.
