Got a 260gtx but thinking it will struggle and I really want this world to look as good as it can, what would you recommend for early 2012 (as I'm getting it on the 360 first) ?

4Gb DDR3

£150 pref, £200 very very max.

Cheers.

Ps: heard new ati cards are coming out around Xmas, so will wait for it to effect prices, but not sure if they are in my budget range.

I saw Oblivion on the 360, which was when the console was under a year old and was really cutting edge. Oblivion took ages to load and looked significantly worse than the PC version, along with a crap framerate.

I really wouldn't get it on the 360 first, I would wait until I had the graphics card to let me enjoy it properly.

Actually, don't get it on 360 at all- Use that £40 to put towards a better graphics card!

Personally I see your cpu being fine. People are saying BF3 performance is 80% gpu and just 20% cpu.

I've done it with oblivion, borderlands, f3 & Vegas and really enjoyed doing it like this, get the best of all worlds. Gpu won't really be an option till after Xmas (financial) reasons and there's no way I won't be playing Skyrim on or before release, I wouldn't be able to sleep. For me this way is the only solution.

Glad to hear the CPU should be able to go another year, its probably got more OC in it since it's on stock volts if I needed too.

Look at at least a 560 / 6870, if can go make a preference for the 560ti / 6950. :)

560ti for £150 is the benchmark and frontrunner, but thought it was worth building up some knowledge especially with what is coming soon.

...but it is such a waste of money paying for full price for the console game then £20-25 on the PC game just a few months later.

Buy all new games for the PC and get a new graphics card :). You can afford it as you are planning to splash out on many console games :p.

I'll get it for sub £30 and probably get more when I trade it back in for mw3 or a.nother game before Xmas.

Fingers crossed there's a 560ti (or ATi equivalent) for sub £150 with Skyrim bundled. Living the dream like if that happens.

I paid £200 for my release day 6950 2gb a year ago. They must be £160 ish 2nd hand now on members market:).

You have the recommended spec for Skyrim on high settings, but not max.

Definitely wait for the next range of graphics cards before upgrading for Skyrim. 6-12 months from now when all the the uber full resolution texture packs are out, Skyrim will make a pair of GTX 580s **** bricks.

People are predicting that fully maxed out, (vanilla) skyrim will run at 30 FPS on a single 1 Gb GTX 460, which sounds believable to me.

Your PC meets the recommended specs you should be able to run it at high settings although if you have max out every single slider like draw distance your fps will suffer.

I wouldn't upgrade, Skyrim isn't anywhere near as hungry as Battlefield 3.
