Slave dvd off ide hard drive ?

Building a new system at the weekend and I only have 1 ide slot, do I slave the dvd off the ide master or get a ide to sata card which seems a bit pointless as drives start from £17

Will slaving the drive affect performance

If its a new dvd what do i get

I think both devices will run at the lowest speed on the channel, i.e. the speed of your DVD drive.

Yes thats what i am worried about. the hard drive running at the same speed as the dvd

Shouldn't matter in the least, in that for years now the drives have been able to operate at their own speed regardless of the speed of the other device on the chain. Note however that of course you will be limited by the fact that if one is sending data the other will have to wait for it so that could be where hold ups occur.
