The sequel to one of the best roguelike deck builders I've ever played is coming soon, and I for one, can't wait.

I have lost so many hours to the original game, and I only heard about it this year. If you are like me and had never heard much about it, it's a smallish download and free of Gamepass with no DLC or microtransactions to worry about.

Thought I'd get this but had a look at some streams and I'm struggling to see what's different to the first game. There probably are things, but it's similar enough that I don't care about playing it again.

It really is just Slay the Spire, but 2. Just adding a few new cards and relics while changing the paint. The genre has developed an awful lot in the period since the first game's release, this hasn't added anything new yet.

I'm going to play it a bit more and keep up with it's development, but this really does just feel like the 1857th Roguelike Deckbuilder we've seen.

I'm enjoying it so far, it's varied enough - Completely new enemies, a new character to play, new events, much more variety in the end of act bosses etc.

'Doom' on the Necrobinder is very overpowered. Ignore his summon

Slay the Spire is one of my favourite and most played games of all time. I am already having a lot of fun with 2.
The necrobinder character is great.

Has anyone tried multiplayer yet?

Really enjoying early access so far although it's more like STS v2 rather SLS 2 - which isn't a bad thing, as they've took an already amazing game and made it better for £20.

I'm not a fan of the regent, I find it the weakest character. Necrobinder is overpowered though because Doom is nuts. Reaper Form and No Escape+ is basically GG; even more so if you have Blight Strike+.

Quite like these kind of games but I suck at deck building so tend to stick with defaults. Been playing Hellcard recently which is quite good. I find them all mostly similar but this reminded me to play the original again.

This and the first are roguelites, so you always start with the same cards for each character and build the deck as you play the current run. You're never overwhelmed with cards to pick.

You learn what combines well and what doesn't through repeated plays and build the deck one encounter at a time, usually from a pick out of three cards. You strategise what to pick from what you're offered based on what you expect to come up and what your deck currently looks like.

The meta progression consists of unlocking characters, new cards, relics, and encounters in future runs, which I think also helps prevent overload right at the start. Each character also has their own set of cards which will drop throughout the run, plus some shared cards.

It's quite easy to get into and still has a lot of depth and strategy.

I haven't had a huge amount of time to sink into this one yet, but the first is my most played game on Steam and this seems to be more of all the good stuff. I'm sure it will at least be a close second.

Regent is the only one I haven't beaten Act 3 with so far, and I've completed Ascension level 20 on all the characters in the original so I have a fairly good idea what I'm doing.

Edit - I did it a few hours after posting this.

Waiting for balance patches. Numerically, the game is significantly harder than STS 1 - same stage enemies & bosses have significantly more HP and more average damage/turn across the board than an equivalent from the previous game.

I've really been putting the hours in on this, loved the first and this is just more of the same. Very very good, can't seem to beat act 3 with the last character yet though been so close
