Sleeping at work

LOL when I worked for a Building Surveyors in Darlington about 15 years or so ago, I used to work in what was a (poorly) converted attic space. The stairs were really creaky and me being a light sleeper could get my head down without the fear of being caught.

I remember one day in the winter when I had a thick woolly jumper on and I was just sprawled over the desk with forehead resting on my arm I was jolted awake by the noise of someone coming up the stairs. I sat bolt upright and started the usual Autocad operators ruse of zooming in and out and looking puzzled. My boss sat down opposite me and I broke off from the zooming and faced him, he started to talk the usual nonsense and my mind started its usual wondering, he stopped talking and said “what’s all those marks on your forehead ?”. I ummed and arr’d a bit as I wondered if he realised they were an imprint of the weave of my jumper…..

Fell asleep on the toilet once here at work. I'd been up for the entire weekend causing all kinds of mischeif then in work on the monday went to the loo and promtly fell asleep I was woken 1-2 hours later by a rather irate college who was in desperate need!

I fell asleep on the shop floor in Halfords once. I had just spent 27 hours there so when my boss started telling me off I've never seen another member of staff shout someone down so fast for being inconsiderate.

PS, yes I did do 27 hours, I was young stupid and trying to impress management.

I once fell asleep in a meeting but that was more due to the consumption of alcohol at lunchtime than tiredness.

When I was a teenager, I was hired to put three stickers with corrections into the pages of a brochure. There were about 9,000 brochures in boxes, so I had to do the 'Peel sticker, open brochure, place sticker' motion about 27,000 times. I was doing this in the company's basement and no-one ever disturbed me.

Dozing off a few times a day to refresh myself became part of the routine. I dusted down a padded chair to rest my head on and lined up several boxes as a bed. This was arranged in the middle of the room, but I was never caught sleeping because no-one came to visit :(

groen, haven't you posted in the past about the trouble you get into at work for not meeting targets and things?

No but I've been close, hangover induced each time.

Used to have cat-naps in the toilet during these times, but never fell asleep.

I generally nod off for about 15 mins each day after lunch. I sit in the corner, and look down/elbow on desk/hand shielding eyes I can normally get away with 3 x 5 mins shifts of dozing off.

A few guys at work had a pretty busy night out last night and all three slept in reception... The office stunk of booze this morning!

Not possible in my current job.

Previously worked nights at a logistics company, I had a power nap on a sofa in reception.

In another job I dropped off sat upright in my chair at my workstation, opened my eyes to see my boss looking at me but he didn't say anything. One guy at that place could sleep standing up, he had mad skills!

I work two night shifts a week and we can sleep from midnight until 7am. We've got these reclining chairs to kip on but 90% just put some cushions down on the floor and sleep there. It's great! Especially on a bank holiday when we're getting double time for sleeping :)

Last job I kipped on the floor of the disabled toilet (mighty roomy in there)... and it was never used.

There was a guy I once worked with who would sometimes disappear for 30 minutes or more and he eventually came clean about what he was doing.

Our Office had one toilet which was also designated disabled, as it was a bit bigger and it's own private room. He would go in there, take the hand towel from the sink, lay it down on the floor and have a sleep for a bit.

He was such an odd character.

My late grandfather once fell asleep at work. He got caught when the bus went off the road and killed everyone onboard...

Sorry.

In theory I could sleep in our loft space storeroom, but its FREEZING up there at the moment. The server room on the otherhand is nice and warm (and temp controllable) has no natural light and only 2 people know the lock code. It would be noisy though.
